The construction combines a hard top layer with a thicker foam layer. This places the pad between hard and soft interface pads, that gives the pad a good balance between flexibility and stability. It is not too hard and not too soft.

The interface pad spreads the pressure more evenly between the machine, abrasive and panel. This gives you more control when preparing the surface for polishing. It is also useful when working on small surface imperfections or orange peel.
